Assistant Professor, Hospitality Management Program

The Hospitality Management Program within the College of Business at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) seeks an assistant professor (tenure-earning) with a start date of August, 2013.

Responsibilities: Primary emphasis will be placed on scholarly research in top-ranking business and hospitality management/tourism journals. Specifically, the successful candidate will conduct research that will be published in Tier 1 and other refereed business/hospitality/tourism academic journals. Industry-focused publications are an ongoing, but secondary priority in terms of scholarly activity. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses such as: Introduction to Hospitality Management, Excellence in Guest Service Management, Principles of Food & Beverage Management, Hospitality Marketing & Revenue Management, and others.

The successful candidate will also serve as a member of national/regional/local hospitality organizations and perform service at an exemplary level within these organizations.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in hospitality/tourism management or similar area. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. and MBA from an AACSB-accredited institution. At a minimum, the candidate must have either the Ph.D. or MBA from an AACSB-accredited institution. One’s PhD, if in progress, must be fully completed and awarded by the time of appointment in August, 2013.

Furthermore, the successful candidate will have a minimum of one publication in print (or accepted for publication) in a Tier 1 academic journal and at least one hospitality business-related conference presentation.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of hospitality industry experience, with at least 3 of those years at the managerial or executive level in roles such as Director of Sales & Marketing, General Manager, Revenue Manager, Front Office Manager, Director of Reservations, Clubhouse Manager, or a comparable level position. Those with current professional certifications such as CHA, CHSE, CRME, CMP, or similar are preferred.

For salary information, please see the job posting at The ideal candidate will be placed on a 2/2 teaching load (2 courses in fall semester and 2 courses in spring semester) with additional summer compensation provided for scholarly activity each summer for up to three consecutive summer terms (pending annual budget funding).
