Announcement of Position Availability Subject to Budgetary Approval Job Opening ID (JOID) 22544 Rank Assistant Professor The Department of Hospitality, Recreation & Tourism Management* at San Jose State University invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor to teach in a fast-growing, free-standing department with over 400 majors, and a growing number of faculty and lecturers. Located in metropolitan San Jose, the capital of Silicon Valley, the Department currently offers a B.S. degree in Hospitality, Tourism, and Event Management (HTEM), with academic emphases in lodging, food service, event management, and entrepreneurship. *--The department name will be renamed to Department of Hospitality Management in Fall 2013. Qualifications

  • An earned doctoral degree from an accredited university, in hospitality, tourism, or related field.
  • An awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experience.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the application of business analytics within the hospitality industry
  • Knowledge of social media marketing in hospitality.
  • A beginning record of research (i.e., academic conference presentations and publications).
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with a diverse population of staff, faculty and students as a team member.

Responsibilities The successful candidate must be able to

  • Teach undergraduate courses at all levels (foundation through advanced) such as: Introduction to Hospitality Management, Lodging Operations Management, Hospitality Marketing, Revenue Management, and others.
  • Share the responsibilities of student advising, curriculum development, supervising internships, etc.
  • Lead and/or supervise service activities on behalf of the department.
  • Serve on department, college and university level committees.
  • Address the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language and academic preparation – through course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.

Salary Range Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
