Washington State University Vancouver and the College of Business invite applications for a clinical faculty position in Hospitality Business Management (HBM) to begin as early as Fall Semester 2013
Academically-qualified (Ph.D. or strong evidence of completion of Ph.D. before appointment date) in a Hospitality Business Management or related field from a nationally or internationally recognized university
Demonstrated ability to publish in peer-reviewed hospitality or related field journals and to pursue a focused and cohesive scholarship agenda related to the hospitality discipline
Demonstrated excellence in teaching
Demonstrated ability to successfully teach varied Hospitality Management courses at the undergraduate level
Demonstrated ability and willingness to take a leadership service role in development of ties with the region’s hospitality community while contributing to student enrollment growth plans and supporting current HBM students.
Subject matter expertise and management related to the hotel, resort, food service and/or tourism industries
Minimum of 3 years professional work experience with significant management or ownership with lodging or related organizations
Demonstrated knowledge and ability to work effectively with diverse student and community populations, and contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching, and/or service.
Term and Support:
Duties are assigned for a nine-month academic calendar, beginning as early as August 16, 2013. This is appointment is a renewal term appointment. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience; benefits are competitive.
An academically qualified faculty member typically teaches three courses each semester (fall and spring). This position will be expected to teach a variety of courses, including both introductory and capstone courses at the undergraduate level. The faculty member is expected to pursue a focused and cohesive scholarship agenda related to the hospitality discipline. In addition, participating in the expansion of the School of Hospitality Business Management (SHBM) statewide initiative is expected including efforts to build relationships with industry professionals, assist with HBM student recruiting, and collaborating with SHBM program activities across WSU campuses.
The School of Hospitality Business Management is the third oldest HBM program in the US and consistently ranks in the top 5 percent nationally. As part of the College of Business, certified majors enjoy the many benefits of earning a four-year degree grounded in the business disciplines of management, accounting, marketing, entrepreneurship, finance, information systems, and international business. The Bachelor of Arts degree requires 1,000 hours of internship/industry experience. This is a founding faculty position to extend the HBM program to southwest Washington. WSU Vancouver is an innovative, non-residential research university campus, located on a 351 acre site, dedicated to offering premier undergraduate and graduate educational and research experiences. As the only public four-year educational institution in Southwest Washington, WSU Vancouver is located in the 4th largest city in the state of Washington. Vancouver is known for its mild climate, access to outdoor recreation, and is adjacent to the Columbia River and Portland, Oregon.
