Hotelschool The Hague has over 1900 (Dutch and international) students and 200 employees including highly educated and experienced lecturers and instructors. The curriculum of the school’s bachelor programme is taught exclusively in English and is based on a unique didactic concept. At the beginning of 2012 this programme achieved a score of ‘excellent’ in the accreditation. The School is currently developing a new master’s programme in Hospitality Management, which will start February 2014. E-learning is offered via Consultancy & Training, a subsidiary company.
The duties of the Education Specialist consist of:
Innovating The Education Specialist shares responsibility for the continued development and improvement of Hotelschool The Hague’s innovative and inspiring educational vision, policy and practice for both the bachelor and masters programmes. He or she analyses trends and developments in the design, development, delivery, assessment and evaluation of (international) higher education.
Advising The Education Specialist is a pro-active discussion partner and consultant for faculty, the Management Team and the Board of Directors and draws up and implements advisory proposals and project plans. He or she educates and advises faculty about educational performance, educational developments and professional development.
Monitoring The Education Specialist monitors the quality and consistency of the implementation of the Hotelschool’s didactic concept and curriculum, including connection to professional practice and monitors evaluation results. The Education Specialist is a member of the Accreditation Project team and participates actively in accreditation processes.
Consulting The Education Specialist participates in internal and external consultations focused on educational development and quality and represents the Hotelschool in formal and informal contacts with key external stakeholders such as the HBO Council, the Ministry of Education and other educational institutions.
Position in the organisation The Education Specialist is part of the Educational Support Office. The Educational Support Office offers advice and support to all educational activities, the Research Centre, Hotel Management and Consultancy & Training. The Education Specialist is a member of the Quality Committee and the Education Committee and provides advice and support to the Assessment Committee.
The Education Specialist:
possesses a university (master’s) degree; preferably MSc in Education, with extensive work experience in higher (international) education;
has demonstrable experience in the field of teaching, educational development, advising, policy development, accreditation and project-based work methods;
has good advisory, analytical and presentation skills, is persuasive and possesses excellent communication skills (oral and written);
has the following competencies: organizational awareness, skilled in the coaching and development of employees in the field of didactics;
is aware of recent developments in international (higher) education;
has knowledge and experience of ICT applications and blended learning solutions in the field of education;
has knowledge and experience with professional development of teachers;
has a strong affinity with the hospitality industry and has an international focus;
has an excellent command of Dutch and English.
The appointment is for a period of 12 months. It is a full-time position, available immediately. Depending on your professional experience and qualifications, your salary will be in line with the sector’s collective agreement (CAO-HBO) at scale 12 with a gross salary between € 4,200 and € 4,750 per month.
