Assistant, Associate, Full Professor Hospitality Management (open rank)

The George Mason University, College of Education and Human Development, School of Recreation, Health and Tourism invites applications for a full-time faculty leadership position in Hospitality Management, a rapidly growing concentration in the college’s highly ranked Tourism and Events Management program ( tourism-and-events-management/). Mason faculty are immersed in an entrepreneurial culture that values and rewards consequential applied research and professional impact. Empowered by its location in the National Capital Region, Mason’s Hospitality Management faculty are dedicated to graduating exceptionally well-prepared professionals in an array of planning, operations, sales, finance, and leadership positions in the hospitality field.

Responsibilities: Candidates may apply for either a tenure-line position and/or a term (nontenure-track) position depending on the candidate’s specific configuration of credentials and talents. Term faculty responsibilities include program and professional leadership; teaching courses related to hotel/lodging, food/beverage, human resources, hospitality sales, management information systems, facilities operations, or hospitality accounting; and completing essential service activities (such as those related to academic advising and student assessment). Tenure-line faculty are also expected to maintain an active line of research and external funding, and provide expertise and scholarly leadership in one or more of the areas noted above, with an emphasis on bridging research and practice.

Qualifications: Applicants are expected to have an earned doctorate in hospitality management, tourism management, or a closely related discipline. Term faculty applicants with a Master’s degree paired with extensive leadership experience in relevant professional settings will also be considered. Other required qualifications include a profile of strong leadership capabilities; demonstrated teaching excellence; substantial professional experience in the hospitality industry; and alignment with the college’s core values focused on diversity, collaboration and innovation. Candidates for a tenure-line position are also expected to be engaged in consequential research and scholarship; and have a publication record commensurate with the rank of associate or full professor, or demonstrate high potential for achieving the rank of associate professor within a two- to three-year period. Highly desired qualifications include demonstrated ability to secure external funding, teaching experience in online venues, and robust relationships with corporate entities in the hospitality industry.
