The Kemmons Wilson School of Hospitality and Resort Management (KWS) is seeking a tenure-track faculty member, effective fall semester 2014, with specialization in hospitality strategic management and/or information technology. The position will be at the rank of assistant or associate professor. Responsibilities include teaching and mentoring undergraduates, developing a stream of quality research, fulfilling service responsibilities of KWS, and establishing professional relationships with companies and organizations in the hospitality industry. KWS seeks candidates with a doctoral degree in hospitality management and work experience in the hospitality industry with expertise in the areas of lodging and/or resort management. The successful candidate is expected to provide thoughtful leadership in hospitality strategic management at the national/international level, work closely with industry, and be a researcher, entrepreneur, mentor, and educator. Experience with online teaching and executive training is desired.
Individuals with exceptional credentials including a proven track record of high-quality scholarship, innovation, and working with the industry will also be considered for The David Michael Meeks Endowed Professorship.
Dedicated in 2002, KWS offers a Hospitality and Resort Management program at The University of Memphis. KWS faculty offices and hospitality student classrooms are part of a 138,000 square-foot, 82-suite hotel and educational facility, donated by Mr. Kemmons Wilson, Sr., hospitality entrepreneur and founder of Holiday Inns. The full-service hotel at the University of Memphis has received awards for excellence and outstanding performance every year since opening in 2002 and provides a unique learning environment for the students. The City of Memphis with a great heritage in tourism and hospitality is also an excellent teaching lab for our students with the curriculum integrated into the day-to-day operations of marquee hotels such as The Peabody Hotel (a magnificent Forbes Four-Star, AAA Four-Diamond historic hotel), and The Hilton Hotel Memphis. Eight dedicated classrooms, student lounge, research center, breakout rooms, a computer lab, full-service restaurant, wine cellar, and a 1000-seat ballroom complement the School facilities.
The hospitality program offers a balance of hands-on experience through 1000 hours of internship experience and academic courses stressing global mindset, diversity and sustainability. KWS graduates earn a Bachelor of Arts (BA) with a major in Hospitality and Resort Management. Collaboration with other academic departments at the university especially at the business school provides research and publication opportunity for faculty.
KWS benefits from numerous connections with the Mid-South hospitality industry and an active and highly supportive advisory board comprised of leading hospitality executives. Funding for KWS provides resources for scholarships, academic programs and faculty, all targeted to expand the program to attain global recognition.
