James Madison University's School of Hospitality, Sport and Recreation Management invites applications for a tenure track HOSPITALITY faculty position at the Assistant level beginning in August of 2015.

Our well-regarded faculty engages in a wide variety of professional development and scholarly activities to assure that the JMU hospitality student receives an exceptional educational experience. We take great pride in a tradition of vibrant instruction within an innovative curriculum. The School is affiliated with the College of Business and has fifteen full time faculty and numerous adjuncts serving 525 majors in Hospitality Management and 400 majors in Sport and Recreation Management. The Hospitality Program was established in 1974.
The responsibility for this tenure track position involves a blend of teaching, scholarship and service. The 3-3 teaching load may include courses in cost control and the senior capstone events course, as well as other functional areas within the hospitality industry. Additional teaching areas and specific assignments are dependent upon School needs.
Earned doctorate (ABD may apply) with at least one degree in hospitality management or a closely related discipline. In addition to the academic preparation, the quality of the institution of higher learning is critical. The successful candidate must have a demonstrated record of outstanding classroom teaching; an ability to connect with undergraduate students; a willingness to work collaboratively with discipline-specific organizations in the region and a desire to actively participate in students' experiential learning opportunities. Regarding scholarship, the successful candidate will have a clear research stream and the ability to publish in peer-reviewed journals. Lastly, professional work experience at the managerial level within the hospitality industry is preferable over a summer internship or being a graduate assistant.
