The School of Travel Industry Management (TIM) is accredited by ACPHA until 2015 and is TedQual certified by the United Nations World Tourism Organization. Founded in 1966, the School pioneered the concept of integrating all aspects of travel in hospitality, tourism, and transportation management under a single discipline. Assistant/Associate Professor in Sustainable Tourism Management (Position No. 82456), School of Travel Industry Management, University of Hawaii at Manoa, 9-months, full-time, tenure-track, general funds, to begin approximately August 2013.

Duties: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in tourism management and additional subjects based on programmatic need and the candidate’s specific expertise. Courses to be taught may include socio-cultural aspects of tourism, geography of tourism, travel distribution systems, sustainable tourism, economics of tourism, attractions/destination development, resort or mixed use management, and tourism planning and policy. Engage in research and scholarly activities leading to publishable works; participate in professional, university, and department service; advise undergraduate and graduate students; and supervise graduate student research.

Minimum Qualifications: Assistant Professor: Doctorate from a college or university of recognized standing in a relevant field; evidence of teaching ability at the baccalaureate level; evidence of ability to complete publishable research in refereed academic journals, poise and good address for meeting and conferring with others. ABD candidates must submit a letter from their committee chair confirming their expected date of completion.

Associate Professor: same as assistant professor, plus four years of full-time college or university teaching at the rank of assistant professor, with evidence of increasing maturity; evidence of teaching proficiency at both the baccalaureate and graduate level; and a publication record commensurate to appointment; scholarly achievement judged competent and adequate for rank in comparison with peers active in the same field at major research universities; continued evidence of participation in the scholarly and academic affairs of a university or other appropriate organization, professional societies or appropriate service activities; demonstrated ability to plan and organize assigned activities; including supervision of assistants when appropriate; ability to serve as a role model for students and junior colleagues.

Desirable Qualifications: Record of funded research or experience in related industry; experience with web-enhanced and/or distance education.
