Description
The Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management at Purdue University Calumet in Hammond Indiana invites applications for a Clinical Assistant Professor position starting August 19, 2013.

Purdue University Calumet is an academically comprehensive regional university, part of the world-class Purdue University system. It is located in Hammond, Indiana, less than 25 miles southeast of downtown Chicago near the shores of Lake Michigan. Purdue Calumet offers baccalaureate and master’s degrees, plus professional certificates in a wide range of fields, and the student body of approximately 10,000 is diverse, with an enrollment that includes some 31 percent minority students. Purdue Calumet serves both commuter and residential students, with apartment-style student housing facilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing and teaching courses in Food and Beverage Management specifically in, but not limited to, production and service operations, procurement, and beverage management.
  • Working closely with student managers and class team members to create and deliver high quality dining experiences for our guests in our state of the art facilities.
  • Guiding students in the development of business plans to successfully operate their own F&B operations within our facility.
  • Working with other HTM faculty, staff and students to create and deliver special events within our facility.

General Requirements:

  • Candidates must be committed to excellence in teaching and the professional development of our HTM students.
  • Demonstrated excellence in college level teaching in similar production and service management courses.
  • Position will require working some evenings and some weekends.

Educational and Industry Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in culinary arts, culinary management and/or hospitality management.
  • Master’s degree in business, hospitality management, quantity food production or related area.
  • Minimum of 5 years culinary experience in a variety of operational types including fine dining working in all aspects of food production with a least 2 years experience holding the position of head or lead chef.
  • Minimum of 3 years management level experience in the hospitality industry.

This is a nine-month clinical position with a non-tenure status in the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management that will begin on August 19, 2013.
