Thanks to your warm support and contributions, the ICHRIE Johnson & Wales Case Study Competition is growing from strength to strength. This year, the competition attracted a record number - 22 - case study submissions, while another seven (7) case studies have been submitted for consideration in the Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Cases (JHTC).
It is thus expected that JHTC will publish 4-5 issues in 2013 depending on the final number of case studies accepted through the peer review process. This is a great contribution to tourism & hospitality education for which every ICHRIE member should be proud. I am also positive that everyone will find the case studies very useful and relevant for enriching their teaching and instruction methods.
Since quality levels skyrocketed this year and competition was very intense, the evaluation scores of case studies were quite close to each other.
It is my pleasure to announce the names of the winners of the 2012 ICHRIE Johnson & Wales Case Study Competition:
Cynthia Mejia and Kelly Phelan, both of Texas Tech University, for the case study: "Communication, Documentation, and HRM: The Case of the Non-Compliant Kitchen Employee"
Jaemin Cha, Michigan State University, for the Case Study: "Lean Finely Textured Beef or Pink Slime: Controversial Debate"
Bilal Ahsan and Mahmood Khan, both from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, for the Case Study: "Getting Friendly with The King"
The awards were presented at the 2012 ICHRIE conference in Providence, Rhode Island USA and each winning case will be featured in an issue of JHTC slated for 2013.
Many congratulations to this year's competition winners, but also to all those who submitted their case studies as well as reviewed and evaluated case studies for the competition and JHTC. Nothing would have happened without your support!
The ICHRIE Johnson & Wales Case Study Competition goes on and information for submitting a case study for the 2013 competition is available on the ICHRIE website at http://www.chrie.org/membership/case-study-competition/index.aspx.
