Associate Dean for Academic Affairs OR Research & Graduate Programs
College of Health Sciences (COHS)

The Associate Dean is a critical member of the college’s administrative leadership team and participates in university-wide initiatives. The Associate Dean is expected to assist the Dean of the College in dealing with the needs of faculty, staff, and students of the College and provide oversight for one of two general areas: academic affairs or graduate programs/research (depending on skill set and area of expertise). Experience in curriculum development, including both face-to-face and online learning. Experience with academic program accreditation in health sciences. (OR) Experience fostering a culture of research and academic excellence. Experience developing and fostering community partnerships and inter-university collaborations. Demonstrated experience working with diverse student populations. Or some combination of the previous experiences. COHS and SHSU are strongly committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace.

The College consists of four academic units: Population Health, Kinesiology, School of Nursing, and Family and Consumer Sciences. Food Service Management, and Foods and Nutrition are housed in Family and Consumer Sciences. Currently there are 55+ full-time faculty members, 35 of whom are tenured/tenure-track. The university is located in Huntsville, TX, one hour north of Houston, TX – the fourth largest metro area in the United States. SHSU is a growing university, as is the College of Health Sciences (COHS). Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to assisting the Dean of the College with the following functions: general administration, curriculum and instruction, accreditation efforts, evaluation and assessment, faculty matters, College organization, internal and external College communication, research activity, student matters, administration of scholarships, fiscal matters, and interacting with other colleges and divisions within the university. May teach courses in addition to other responsibilities. Performs other related duties as assigned.
