What a Great Conference!
Alleah Crawford is Director of Education for ICHRIE.
The 2019 Annual ICHRIE summer conference and marketplace, held in fabulous New Orleans, Louisiana was a success. Hospitality educators, researchers, and industry professionals gathered to listen and discuss over 160 stand up and poster presentations, symposia ranging from engaging online students to dark tourism, and exciting keynote addresses. This year we introduced two new opportunities to ICHRIE members, campfire sessions and Manuscript Marathon.
We enjoyed great participation in our campfire sessions. These focused on teaching fundamentals from motivation of students to online teaching. Campfire sessions are designed to encourage peer to peer exchange, be quick and focused, and provide an opportunity to discuss teaching focused ideas, concepts, and best practices. We received great feedback and are happy to announce that you will see these again in Phoenix!
Imagine going to a conference, meeting a new team of collaborators, and leaving ICHRIE with a research study and acceptance to one of our ICHRIE journals. You don’t have to imagine this possibility anymore! Manuscript Marathon had this impact for 5 new teams of researchers. Interested? Well, we received great feedback and are happy to announce that you will see Manuscript Marathon again in Phoenix!
Our general sessions and industry session were varied and engaging. In New Orleans we brought Mark Romig, President and CEO of the New Orleans Marketing Corporation; Chef Haley Bittermann, Corporate Chef for Ralph Brennan Restaurant Group; Iis Tusssyadiah, President, IFITT; Ron Mitchell, CEO, HCareers; and many more industry professionals to share their knowledge and expertise with our membership. Steve Hood, ICHRIE Director of Industry Services, and I are partnering again to give greater voice to our members though the Call for Industry Speakers. Please send the call to your industry contacts for more dynamic industry speakers in Phoenix.
A special thank you to Kathy McCarty, Kevin Anderson, Amie Grayson, Rei Ellis, and Shaina Wilson for their hard work before, during, and after the conference. Also, a special thank you to Kim Williams and Yvette Green as our local hosts! These individuals were essential to the success of the 2019 Annual ICHRIE summer conference and marketplace!
If you weren’t with us this summer, you missed out on a great conference! But don’t worry, next year will be even better!! Mark your calendar for next year’s conference Enriching the Hospitality & Tourism Future through Industry and Educational Partnership, July, 22-24, 2020 at the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort & Spa.
