Assistant Professor – Hospitality Event Management
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Department of Nutrition and Health Sciences is seeking an outstanding individual with expertise in event management and ability to engage with Nebraska Extension as a part of the land grant mission of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
This is a 12-month tenure-track position at the assistant professor level (50% Extension, 45% teaching, and 5% service). The ideal candidate will develop a high-impact, nationally and internationally recognized Extension program in hospitality event design, planning, production and management, particularly in the context of economic development and tourism in rural and urban communities. This will require connecting with local Extension Educators, community and statewide stakeholders, agencies, and industry partners such as convention/visitors bureaus, Nebraska Tourism Commission, chambers of commerce, and community organizations to strengthen Extension and educational programming.
The incumbent is expected to seek and establish effective disciplinary and transdisciplinary collaborations and provide leadership to respective Extension Issue Teams and other Extension professionals working in hospitality, event planning, and tourism. The incumbent is also expected to obtain and leverage external and internal funds for Extension and scholarly activities that include supporting and mentoring students; integrating Extension programs into student learning and student learning into Extension programs; publishing in high-quality peer-reviewed journals; and participating in professional meetings and other appropriate activities. Duties include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in hospitality/event management as well as engaging in service activities that include student recruitment and retention, committee assignments, reporting responsibilities, and other special ad hoc assignments as requested at the Department, College, and University level. The successful candidate will have an understanding of the University of Nebraska land grant mission.

Qualifications: A doctoral or equivalent degree in hospitality, business, or relevant field is required. Also required are strong communication skills, evidence of teaching and/or presentation skills for both the classroom and community engagement, and the ability to work cooperatively with colleagues and industry professionals. Preferred qualifications include a minimum two years of event management experience in the hospitality industry and teaching at the university level.
