The Experience Industry Management Department in the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, CA, is seeking applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant/associate professor position starting September 12, 2022. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate-level courses and graduate-level courses in the Experience Industry Management Department and courses specific to an area of expertise in Experience Design, Special Events, and/or Experience Management. Examples of potential courses may include: Principles of Experience Industry Management, Introduction to the Experience Industry, Experience Design, Experiential Marketing Strategies, Special Event Management and Financial Management in the Experience Industry.

Duties may also include, but are not limited to, supervision of undergraduate senior projects, graduate student research, student advising, and teaching graduate-level courses and/ or certificate programs. The successful candidate is expected to participate in scholarly activities (i.e., research, grant writing, publications, presentations) in an area of expertise directly related to experience design, design thinking, event planning and management, experiential marketing, or related field as part of their professional development and in support of the Experience Innovations Lab. The successful candidate is also expected to provide service on committees for the department, college, and university and participate in related instructional activities. Expectations also include service to local, state, national, related professional organizations.

Required Qualifications/Specialized Skills
Doctorate degree in event planning, experience design, tourism, hospitality, destination management, experiential marketing, recreation, or a related field required (ABD will be considered). Applicants should have a combination of teaching, practical, and/or research experience in experience design, design thinking, event planning & management, experiential marketing, and/or related areas.

Must demonstrate excellence in teaching, effective communication, and interpersonal skills. The ability to be a productive team player and interact well with peers, students, experience industry sector, government agencies, and the general public is essential. Must demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong interests in undergraduate and graduate teaching are required. Candidates must also demonstrate an ability to initiate, complete, secure external funding, and publish research.

Preferred Qualifications/Skills
Previous work experience with and expertise in successful event ideation, design and execution and innovative experience design is highly preferred. Experience with course development and online teaching preferred. The ability to collaborate on research with faculty across the College, University, and industry is desirable. Candidates who have international experience or the desire to cultivate international links are preferred.
