The E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a Director of the Clay Brittain Jr. Center for Resort Tourism, which is a full-time tenure-track position in Hospitality, Resort, and Tourism Management (HRTM) at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank beginning Fall 2023. The assigned rank would be commensurate with the candidate’s record of research achievement, teaching, and leadership in connecting students and faculty to industry and community.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching, conducting research, and guiding a program in hospitality, resort, and tourism management. Teaching responsibilities will primarily include undergraduate courses in HRTM related to managing hospitality organizations and developing multi-use resorts. Teaching expectations are typically two courses per semester while directing the Brittain Center, and may include face-to-face, hybrid, or online delivery.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, engagement in scholarly academic intellectual activities is required. The successful candidate will also be responsible for advising and mentoring undergraduate students, contributing to the assessment of student learning outcomes, and engaging in other service activities within the department, college, campus, community, and profession.

As center director the candidate will be tasked with at least the following activities:

  • Collaborating with tourism industry and community stakeholders to identify educational curriculum needs to support departmental strategic planning and curriculum development.
  • Planning and leading meetings of the HRTM executive advisory board;
  • Serving as faculty adviser to the Eta Sigma Delta, the International Hospitality Honor Society;
  • Coordinating student research in the field of hospitality and tourism, locally, regionally, and globally;
  • Coordinating the awarding of HRTM student awards and scholarships;
  • Creating and submitting the HRTM program assessment reports;
  • Working collaboratively with the Office for Advancement and Alumni Engagement to identify advancement opportunities;•Leading and coordinating outreach to prospective HRTM students and their families; and
  • Leading and coordinating marketing promotional efforts of the HRTM program.To be considered, candidates must have a Ph.D. in hospitality, tourism, or a related field or a D.B.A./Ph.D. in a business discipline from a regionally accredited institution.

Preference will be given to candidates with substantial experience in the field of hospitality or tourism and a record of publication in hospitality or tourism journals. The ideal candidate should also have a record of building opportunities for students to connect with industry and community beyond the typical internship experience. Applicants must have abilities, skills, and enthusiasm consistent with teaching excellence and instructional innovation.

Accredited by AACSB International, the Wall College of Business serves more than 2600 graduate and undergraduate students and has faculty members represented by six academic disciplines: Accounting, Economics, Finance, Management, Marketing, and Hospitality and Resort Tourism.
