Position Summary
Success in this position requires excellence and expertise that strengthens the university’s capacity to engage students, community members, and affiliated researchers on food and beverage and hospitality issues. The faculty member will contribute to enhancing the School’s national and international reputation for its undergraduate programs. The faculty member will teach experiential food and beverage laboratory classes with management components as well as other required and elective classes. They are responsible for maintaining cost-effective, innovative, and sustainable operations practices in cooperation with other faculty and administrators. Teaching related duties include mentoring undergraduate students and assisting with department recruiting and retention efforts. Although the position does not have formal Cooperative Extension Services duties, outreach and service to stakeholders are an essential aspect of it. Service to the profession, on university, college, and departmental committees, and through managing and attending department and community events is expected. Performing scholarly and creative activities is highly encouraged.

Qualifications
Master degree (awarded by hire date) in Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management or related field. Industry certification preferred. The successful candidate will show a commitment to excellence and specific evidence of:

  1. experience teaching and assessing food and beverage laboratory classes and online courses
  2. interest and expertise in culinary arts, food and beverage management, sustainability, and other hospitality and tourism topics; (3) potential to apply research to teaching at the undergraduate levels.

Candidates should demonstrate ability to

  1. communicate with various and appropriate audiences (e.g., stakeholders, policymakers, and academic),
  2. mentor undergraduate students, and
  3. perform outreach to potential students and community stakeholders. Knowledge of and industry and teaching experience with wine, beer, and spirits is preferred.

Such a candidate may be eligible for supplemental funding through the Marion Lawrence Endowed Professorship funds. The department is diverse and multicultural and the ability to enjoy and thrive in this team-oriented environment is essential.

Department Description
New Mexico State University, with the main campus located in Las Cruces, is the state’s land-grant institution, with more than 22,000 undergraduate and graduate students on its five campuses. The School of HRTM is part of the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences, which is home to seven other academic departments, five extension departments, approximately 150 faculty members and 1,800 students. The department offers an undergraduate degree in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management and a graduate Master of Family and Consumer Sciences, HRTM emphasis degree. Both are offered fully online through NMSU Online. HRTM also offers a variety of courses through NMSU On-Demand.
