The Department of Human Movement Sciences in the Darden College of Education and Professional Studies at Old Dominion University invites applications for a position as a Lecturer starting in July 2023.

Position
Responsibilities include teaching courses in the Tourism and Hospitality Management major, which include topics such as hospitality marketing & sales, and hotel operations & management. The candidate will provide service to the university, profession, and community, and participate in program government as it relates to the Tourism and Hospitality Major within the Park, Recreation and Tourism Studies degree. In that capacity, the candidate will serve on committees, and participate in program governance, decision-making, and curriculum development. The candidate will develop new undergraduate and graduate courses and be part of developing a proposed Tourism and Hospitality Management concentration in the ODU Online MBA program.

Minimum requirements
Minimum required qualifications for the position include:

  1. A doctoral degree in Hospitality Management or a related field. ABD with a completion date prior to July 15, 2023 will be considered.
  2. Develop and teach a variety of undergraduate tourism and hospitality management courses on topics such as hospitality marketing & sales and hotel operations & management.
  3. Develop and teach at least two graduate courses focused on hospitality finance, analytics, research, and/or management.
  4. Serve on committees, participate in program governance, decision-making, and curriculum development.

The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity and a willingness to work in a multicultural setting.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience teaching hospitality management courses at the undergraduate or graduate level
  • Experience with hospitality curriculum development
  • Experience developing and teaching online courses
  • Experience as a practitioner in the hospitality industry
  • Ability to teach courses on meeting and event planning, sustainable management, and diversity in the tourism and hospitality industry

The Human Movement Sciences (HMS) Department
The Human Movement Sciences (HMS) Department is one of six departments in the Darden College of Education and Professional Studies and offers baccalaureate and graduate degree programs in Sport Management, Exercise Science, Health & Physical Education, and Park, Recreation & Tourism Studies. HMS currently has 23 full-time faculty, an administrative support employee, 20 department-funded graduate assistants, approximately 1,100 undergraduate majors, and 100 graduate students.
