The School of Hospitality Management (SHM) in the College of Health and Human Development (HHD) at The Pennsylvania State University, invites applications for an Open Rank Tenure Line Faculty position in hospitality management with expertise in lodging and/or food service operations with supporting scholarly foci in technology, entrepreneurship and/or innovation, or with supporting scholarly foci in sustainability and wellness in hospitality contexts, to begin in Spring or Fall 2023. We are particularly seeking individuals whose research approach is interdisciplinary and may support the School's strategic plan.

The School offers three levels of educational program excellence at the baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral levels. The School enjoys an engaged alumni association, active industry partners and advisors, and a global reputation for excellence. The School offers research faculty access to the School's research kitchens, sensory and eye-tracking labs, and other collaborative facilities to advance research serving the greater Penn State mission and the hospitality industry.

Requirements:

  • A Doctorate in hospitality management, business management, or a related field is required by the date of appointment and experience commensurate to the rank of assistant or associate professor.
  • At the level of Assistant Professor, applicants should have a record of promising success in teaching and research, along with a primary professional identity as hospitality or related field educator and researcher. For the role of Associate Professor, applicants seeking appointment should have demonstrated competence in the aforementioned areas and should have an established reputation in scholarly or professional achievement in hospitality management education or related field.
  • Evidence of engagement in high-quality research and scholarship in hospitality management commensurate with experience• Interest in obtaining external funding to support research
  • Evidence of a commitment to equity-oriented approaches to teaching and advising, including a willingness to teach online and residentially
  • Evidence of a commitment to collegiality with individuals from diverse backgrounds, as well as a commitment to fostering and maintaining collegial relationships with program faculty, school administrators, practicing teachers, and other education professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in critical research, writing, and other scholarly activities within one or more of the above-identified foci• Seek and secure external support for research
  • Teach, contribute to program development, and advise within the School of Hospitality Management's undergraduate and graduate majors and programs, and related areas
  • Maintain and extend collaborations with related School and College faculty and programs, including school-university partnerships
  • Provide service, outreach, and leadership to the University, College, schools, and other educational institutions, agencies, professional organizations, and learned societies.
