The 2024 Graduate Education & Graduate Student Research Conference in Hospitality & Tourism was held at the Kovens Conference Center on the campus of Florida International University (FIU) 4-6 January 2024. Over 415 attendees were drawn to the Miami location and climate. The host committee from FIU provided a well-organized and invigorating environment for graduate students, faculty, and interested industry friends to interact and share information.
CHRIE FutureFund™, as it has for prior years, provides a $1,000 award to Best Paper Winners of the Graduate Conference. The winners receive complimentary registration to the Annual ICHRIE Global Conference (Montreal 2024), complimentary membership in ICHRIE, and reimbursement for lodging in the conference host hotel (Le Centre Sheraton Montreal Hotel). Each of the four winners from the 2023 Graduate Conference attended and presented at the 2023 Annual ICHRIE Global Conference in Phoenix, Arizona, USA, so we will look forward to the four 2024 winners joining us in Montreal this coming July.
At the 2024 Graduate Conference there were many outstanding paper and poster presentations. The Paper Review Committee really had a challenging task in identifying the four Best Paper Winners. The 2024 Graduate Education & Graduate Student Research Conference in Hospitality & Tourism Best Paper winners are:
Chang Ma (Purdue University): Unveiling the role of congruity in service robot design and deployment (with faculty Alei Fan and Seonjeong Lee).
Alberto Beiza (University of Houston): Communal or agentic? The impression management of gay men in the hospitality industry (with faculty Juan Madera).
Xinying Xu (The Hong Kong Polytechnic University): Becoming a digital nomad: Exploring the happiness of remote work tourists (with faculty Haiyan Song and Qijie Jiang).
Juhwan Lim (Kansas State University): Using machine-learning approach to predict Big-five personality traits based on communication types (with faculty Jichul Jang).
